Siún Murdiff and Mia Lenihan were on the scoresheet for Wexford Youths WFC U19s in their 2-2 draw in Sligo yesterday. The game at The Showgrounds Astro was their final League fixture of the season, the girls finishing as runners up in Tier One.
Siún (pictured above) made a triumphant return from injury with a well taken second half equaliser. Mia (pictured below) had given the Youths the lead but two quick fIre goals from the hosts had them 2-1 up at half time.
Wexford had the better of it in the second half and deservedly drew level in the 60th minute but Rovers held on for a share of the spoils.
Our U19s aren’t done yet – they take on Shelbourne FC in the EA Sports Cup Final on November 5th in Athlone.
Our U17s played their final home game of the season on Saturday, the girls beaten 5-2 by Athlone at Ferrycarrig. The scoreline isn’t a fair reflection on their performance, the girls were very much on top in the first but they went in two goals down, the visitors clinical with the two chances they created.
Athlone added a third in the 59th but the girls struck back with goals from Lily-Anne O’Meara (pictured below) and Ella Nolan. While pressing for an equaliser the girls were caught on the break and the midlanders added two more goals right at the death.
Our girls travel to Galway on November 4th for their final game of the season, they still remain in third spot in League Tier One.
