Letter to Supporters

Dear Supporter

You may have seen coverage of the launch of Wexford Supporters Trust, a Supporters owned and controlled Co-op which will take ownership of Wexford FC. You might well ask yourself;

Sure, why would I want to own a share in a football club like Wexford FC?

Here are 10 good reasons;

  1. We are a community club, run by volunteers, on a not for profit basis. The club’s mission is “provide the best of facilities, coaching, development and opportunities for young people in Wexford and the South East, so that they can reach their potential, and play football at the highest level in the country.
  2. The club currently has teams playing at national level in the League of Ireland at 5 different levels; Boys Under 15, Under 17 & Under 19, Men’s Senior & Womens Senior. Come watch and support the club as it pits its talent against the best of teams from all over the country.
  3. For the younger boys we have a thriving Talent Development Programme at Under 11, 12, 13 & 14, plus a junior academy for the younger ones. We have a series of talented underage girls teams playing in the local leagues.
  4. So the joy of watching the development of these youngsters through our underage structure and hopefully progressing to our Senior Men’s/Women’s teams cannot be underestimated.
  5. The joy of success, while not the be all and end all of the club ethos, we hope will be a by-product of our efforts and can create magical moments and memories. Who will ever forget Wexford Youths run to the League Cup Final of 2008, played at our own Ferrycarrig Park vs Derry City in front of 4,000 fans (let’s ignore the actual result). Or the club’s First Division Championship season of 2015 featuring the exploits of our greatest goal scorer Danny Furlong, who scored 30 goals in 28 games.
  6. Our Women’s team have been Champions of Ireland twice (did the League & Cup double in 2015) and won every major national honour in the last few years. We have hosted a qualifying group of the Women’s Champions League with distinction. Our players have represented Ireland at underage, & University level. We have had several players represent their country at senior level, players like Claire O’Riordan, Rianna Jarrett, Nicola Sinnott , and Jessica Gleeson.
  7. The chance to witness and support the development of players who go on to play top class football in England and go on to international honours. For instance Kevin Doyle represented Wexford Youths in his formative years and last year saw the transfer of our promising young centre back Ryan Delaney to Championship side Burton Albion.
  8. Experience the welcome at our beautiful facilities at Ferrycarrig Park. Watch the game in our 700 seater stand or in inclement weather you can view the proceedings from our upstairs bar area over a nice coffee and a homemade cupcake.
  9. Get involved in the operation if the club. There is a committed group of coaches, volunteers, fundraisers, match stewards, media team etc etc who are in this for no self interest other than being true to our values and objectives as a club. Come and join them.
  10. We are involved in a number of community initiatives.  We have just joined the FAI’s Football for All programme which aims to provide the experience of playing and getting football coaching for those who do not normally do so. We are commencing these sessions with a group of local children with special needs over the next couple of weeks.

There are a whole host of reasons why you might get involved in supporting the sustainability of a community club like this.

It’s real, it’s honest, it’s local. If you believe it worthwhile for Wexford to provide opportunities for the best of our young footballers to play the game at League of Ireland level, then get involved, take a share, have your say.
