Wexford FC Women have been drawn in Group B of the 2024 All-Island Cup competition which gets underway at the end of March.
Wexford will face Cliftonville Ladies, Cork City and Shelbourne FC in the group stage – the competition now in its second year. Hugh Strong’s team will be hoping to go all the way after an unlucky penalty shoot out semi-final defeat to eventual winners Galway in 2023.
Cliftonville will be a challenging test for Wexford – the Belfast side feature a number of Northern Ireland internationals in their ranks as well as 2023 Women’s Premiership Player of the Year Danielle Maxwell.
Cliftonville finished runners up in the NIFL last year. They also picked up two trophies, winning the League Cup and County Antrim Cup and narrowly lost out to Galway in the All-Island Cup Final.
Cork and Shelbourne will be familiar foes of course in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.
Shelbourne were runners up in the League and lost out to Athlone in the FAI Cup Final. Cork had a difficult campaign in 2023 but they will be looking for a big season when the action finally kicks off next month.
Matchday one of the All-Island Cup is set for Saturday, 23rd March, full fixture details TBC.
