Wexford FC Women have appointed a new highly experienced coaching team.
The new coaching team is led by former Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda United and Bray Wanderers player Sean Byrne (pictured above), a highly respected coach in the domestic women’s game who holds a UEFA A coaching license and has been immersed in the Women’s League of Ireland and underage International age groups for the past 17 years. Byrne, a full time Academy Coach, has coached Raheny United 2012/13 and more recently Bohemians Senior Women’s team and Peamount United and has also coached at International level across the full spectrum of ages from U15 to senior level.
Byrne can also call on the expertise of Pat Trehy as Goalkeeping Coach. Trehy played League of Ireland football for 12 years beginning his career with Shamrock Rovers before helping Bray Wanderers to a LOI First Division title. Similar to Byrne, Trehy has been involved in the Women’s LOI for several years – formerly coaching at Peamount, Shelbourne and Bohemians and has coached many of the most prominent goalkeepers in the country over the past 10 years.
Byrne’s team is complemented by the experienced former League of Ireland player Paul Usher who coached Bohemians WU19s from 2021 to 2023. Paul has also coached at the highest levels of the amateur game in Ireland having achieved a number of successes at this level over a 5 year period.
Performance Services Lead, Cameron Molloy is also a UEFA qualified coach and has worked with Sean at Bohemians for three seasons. Cameron’s skills are highly respected by the coaching team and he will bring a fresh approach to the fitness work of Wexford FC Women which will serve them well for the coming season.
Finally, the team is also complimented by Aoife Lynch who has a wealth of experience managing and coaching at underage level and helped start up the South Tipp ETP Centre before taking up the role of Wexford FC Women’s U17 Assistant Manager for the 2022 season.
Aoife was named Team Manager of our WU19 team the following year leading them to Cup success.
