Wexford FC take part in the first LOI Down Syndrome Futsal tournament

Last Sunday we were thrilled to take part in the first ever League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal tournament in Gormanstown, Co. Meath.

One of 8 League of Ireland sides represented at the tournament, the side took the first steps in football together three weeks ago in Bunclody AFC, facilitated by our FSR Officer Mark Ross.  The side acquitted themselves well and finished in fourth place – but more than anything, this is a significant mark in how far Wexford FC has come as a community club.

We are reaching out to parts of our community that previously may never have had the chance to play in tournament like this – with a Pan-Disability group and Powerchair team also in action in Wexford FC colours now.

Our Down Syndrome squad are due to join us for tonight’s game, be sure to give them a hearty welcome and a big congratulations on being part of this important inaugural tournament!

Everyone at the club also sends Mark Ross a big well done on putting this wonderful programme together.

You can also see more of this programme on our Youtube Channel, where we documented the first futsal session the group held at Bunclody.
