Wexford FC are delighted to confirm that academy standout Kyal Byrne has signed a multi-year contract.

Byrne, who has just turned 17, joined the Wexford FC Academy ahead of the 2023 season and has become one of the club’s most exciting young prospects. A versatile forward and midfielder, he enjoyed a remarkable year in 2025, scoring 30 goals across academy competitions.

The Arklow Town FC graduate made his senior debut last season at just 16 years of age, coming off the bench at half-time in the 1–1 draw away to Finn Harps and delivering an impressive second half performance that underlined his rising potential.

The new contract represents a major vote of confidence in Byrne’s future at the club and provides long-term security as he continues his development in the first team setup.

Manager Stephen Elliott said:  “Kyal is a young player who has shown great promise since I arrived at the football club. He scored a lot of goals at academy level and has consistently demonstrated a top-class attitude when training with the first team.

He made several appearances last year and impressed us, and as a club we believe we can help him take his game to the next level. We’re confident he has a bright future, and we’re excited to continue working with him.

We’ve already shown that age doesn’t matter — if you’re good enough, you’ll get an opportunity at this club. There is a real, positive culture developing here, and Kyal is a great example of that.”

The signing took place at Ferrycarrig Park last Saturday, with Kyal joined by his family for the occasion. The contract was formally signed on behalf of Wexford FC by board member Will McCreevy and First Team Manager Stephen Elliott.

Wexford FC look forward to supporting Kyal’s continued growth and are excited to see what the next three years will bring for one of the club’s bright young talents.

Huge congratulations to Kyal Byrne, his family, Arklow Town and everyone who has supported him on the journey so far!
