Wexford Youths WFC U17 and U19 girls are both in EA Sports Cup Semi-Final action this weekend – a huge achievement for our Girls Academy.
Both teams have been drawn away from home with our U17 girls travelling to Athlone on Saturday and our U19s in Cork on Sunday.
After a brilliant win over Dundalk FC at Oriel Park in the Quarter Finals, our U17s were unlucky to get another tough draw away from home in the Semis with Athlone the opponents at Athlone Town Stadium.
Athlone beat Peamount 6-1 in their QF (also played in Athlone) and will be strong favourites after already beating Wexford 4-1 in their League clash earlier this month. The Youths will also be without five of their players who are away with their school at the moment so the odds are stacked against them on Saturday. The girls (who are in third spot in the League competition) will give their all and will be looking to cause a major Cup upset. Your support for the girls is very welcome.
On Sunday our U19 girls will take on Cork City at Bishopstown Stadium. Another unlucky draw with the U19 Youths on the road to Cork for the fifth time this season. The teams have already met in the Cup group stage, Youths winning 3-2 (in Cork).
Our U19s are also in the hunt for a League title, currently placed second with three games to go.
