Wexford FC are absolutely thrilled to announce the appointment of Tom Elmes as our new Academy Director.
Elmes returns to Ferrycarrig Park with tremendous experience of the League of Ireland and the International setup. A UEFA Pro Licence holder with a Master’s Degree in Sport Development and Coaching, he is the perfect appointment to lead the development of the next generation of young Wexford footballers.
His history with the club goes across the eras. Tom originally made his mark on the pitch as a key player for the Men’s senior team, making 48 appearances and netting 12 goals – most memorably scoring a four-goal haul against rivals Waterford in 2012.
Following his playing career, Tom transitioned into management and led a historic era in the history of Wexford Youths Women. Between 2018 and 2021, he managed the club to two Women’s National League titles and two FAI Women’s Cups, solidifying his reputation as one of the top coaches in the country.

His domestic success naturally led to the international stage, where Elmes served as the Assistant Manager for the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team, as well as Head Coach of the Girls’ U16 National team.
Now, Elmes returns home to take the reins of the Wexford FC Academy pathway.
This role is funded through the League of Ireland Academy Investment Programme supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Sport Ireland. Wexford FC would like to thank Minister Patrick O’Donovan and Minister Charlie McConalogue for their support in helping the Club in this invaluable appointment
