MU19 Match Report – Wexford FC 3-0 Kerry FC

Our U19’s followed up last weeks impressive victory over Klub Kildare with a 3-0 win against Kerry FC at Ferrycarrig Park. Goals from Aaron Doran, Sean Fitzpatrick and Padraig Wafer secured the three points in a thoroughly deserved victory for the home side.

The first twenty minutes brought about chances for both sides. Wexford flew out of the traps with both Sean Fitzpatrick and Evan Farrell setting their sights on Richard Healy’s goal, with the Kerry keeper doing particularly well to smother Fitzpatrick’s one-on-one. Kerry also had openings in the early stages with Trpimir Vrljicak testing William Hayes’ handling with what was in the end a routine stop for the Wexford shot stopper.

It took until the twenty-third minute for the deadlock to be broken, and it was done so in some style. Aaron Doran collected Richard Lapite’s first time pass before driving infield and blasting his effort past the out-stretched dive of Healy. Wexford FC 1-0 Kerry FC.

Wexford looked comfortable and dominated possession as the game headed into the interval but a momentary lapse in concentration almost allowed Kerry to draw level. Hayes produced a decent double block, firstly to deny Carroll and then Vrljicak from close range. Half-time Wexford FC 1-0 Kerry FC.

The second half started even quicker than the first, with chances for both sides. Kennedy Amechi would have been disappointed not to draw the visitors level firing over from the edge of the box. Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick almost extended our lead in the forty-eighth minute, his left footed dink striking the Kerry crossbar.

Wexford had Ben Lynch deployed as a centre-half but his attacking talent as a full-back was on full display when he carried the ball some forty yards through the heart of the Kerry team before feeding Doran, whose shot was saved by the feet of Healy.

Healy was by far the busier of the two keepers and in the seventy-sixth minute he would be forced to face a penalty, after the ever-direct Fitzpatrick was halted by Conor Keirns in the area. Fitzpatrick dusted himself off to convert the spot kick, sending Healy the wrong way. Wexford FC 2-0 Kerry FC.

The scoring was not yet over, as Wexford still had time to find a third. Padraig Wafer was in the right place at the right time to slam home the rebound of O’Lionain’s superbly saved attempt. Wexford FC 3-0 Kerry FC.
