Match Report: Wexford FC U19 6 – 2 Klub Kildare U19

It was a sensational six for our U19’s today as they stormed to a 6-2 victory over visiting Klub Kildare, A Sean Fitzpatrick hattrick, an Evan Farrell brace and a strike from Richard Lapite capped an all-round dominant display from the home side.

It was the perfect start for the ‘Slaneysiders’ when in just the second minute Evan Farrell opened the scoring when he calmly slotted home Sean Fitzpatrick’s left footed cross.

Fitzpatrick was a constant thorn in the Kildare side from the outset, and he threatened to double Wexford’s lead with a powerful drive which was well saved by Brennan.

However, he did have his first of the afternoon shortly after, when in the sixteenth minute he was set through on goal by Dylan Maher’s clever pass, expertly rounding the onrushing Brennan before tapping home into the empty net. 2-0.

Wexford were playing sharp, incisive football and could now smell blood. Fitzpatrick must have enjoyed his first because his second was a carbon copy. The Kildare defence was caught too far up the pitch which Evan Farrell took full advantage of. He spotted Fitzpatrick’s run, breaking the defensive line and Brennan was yet again unable to prevent being rounded as the Wexford man walked the ball home. 3-0.

It was proving to be a miserable away day for Kildare and Wexford were not willing to let up. In the thirty-ninth minute Richard Lapite drove at the Kildare backline before teeing up Evan Farrell who blasted home to make it a well-deserved fourth.

To their credit Kildare showed a glimpse of what they can do towards the end of the first-half. Brennan made what was quite frankly a world class save from point blank range to deny Wexford a fifth, just moments before Kildare had their best chance of the half, hitting the Wexford post with Hayes beaten. Half-time Wexford FC 4-0 Klub Kildare.

The second half had a lot to live up to, and it did not disappoint. The largely untested William Hayes was called into action, doing well to turn a long-range effort around the post.

Wexford pushed on to extend their lead further and despite some last ditch defending and some bad luck in front of goal, Richard Lapite found himself in the right place at the right time to side-foot home from close range. Wexford FC 5-0 Klub Kildare.

Wexford seemed to take their foot off the pedal after this as Kildare scored two goals in quick succession through Morgan and Cassin.

This was as good as it got for the visitors however, as Fitzpatrick capped off a memorable afternoon by completing his hattrick just before the end, racing through on goal before burying his effort past the helpless Brennan. Full Time: Wexford FC 6-2 Klub Kildare.
