Match Report: Wexford FC U15 2- 0 Waterford FC U15

Goals from Darragh Kinch and Max Beary capped a dominant performance as our U15’s ran out 2-0 winners against south-east rivals Waterford FC earlier today. Although the physically imposing Waterford side had chances on, Wexford controlled possession for the majority of the game and were clinical when opportunities on goal arose.

It was the visitors who raced out of the traps early on, and perhaps should have taken the lead after just a minute. O’Brien done well to save the original Waterford effort but as the rebound fell to Lapite he could only redirect the ball off the top of the crossbar, in what was a real let-off for Wexford.

Following the early scare Wexford began to wake up. In the 7th minute, Kinch and Byrne exchanged passes with the latter being sent clear on goal. However, he was denied by a very smart stop by the boot of Bacela in the Waterford goal, keeping the score level.

The deadlock would finally be broken just after the 20-minute mark. Darragh Kinch collected the ball some 30 yards out from goal, before waltzing through the heart of the visitors’ defence. The run was complimented by the coolest of finishes as he calmly slotted the ball home past Bacela. Wexford FC 1-0 Waterford FC.

As the first third drew to a close there was still time for Patryk O’Brien to save from Callum Brennan. But his near post effort did little to trouble the Wexford keeper. 30 mins: Wexford FC 1-0 Waterford FC.

The second third had a completely different feel to it as opposed to the first. Wexford were comfortable inviting Waterford to come onto them, whilst looking to hit back on the counter. Darragh Buttle and Max Beary threatened as Waterford began to push higher up the pitch. Beary would have his goal though, when he cut in from the left flank and buried his effort low past the Waterford keeper leaving him no chance and doubling the advantage. 60 mins: Wexford FC 2-0 Waterford FC

The final third was scrappy to say the least, with the Wexford lead not under any real threat. The best Waterford opportunity to draw one back came from a corner which in the end was brilliantly stabbed clear by Rian O’Grady late on. In the end Wexford stood firm and managed to keep a well-deserved clean sheet to go alongside a fantastic 3 points. Full-time
