Match Preview: Wexford Youths Women FC v Sligo Rovers Women

Wexford Youths Women kick off match day two with their first home game of the season, Sligo Rovers Women the visitors to Ferrycarrig Park tomorrow evening.

The Youths head into the game on the back of a good opening day victory in Galway, Ciara Rossiter scoring the late winner at Eamonn Deacy Park last week. Sligo were unfortunate not to pick up any points in their opener, another late strike deciding the game with Áine O’Gorman scoring in the 92nd minute to secure the three points for Shamrock Rovers at The Showgrounds. Former Youth Emma Hansberry scored for the ‘Bit O’ Red’ in the 2-1 defeat.

Emily Corbet, Abbie Brophy and Orlaith Deasy made their Wexford debuts in Galway with the returning Rianna Jarrett also in the starting eleven.

Rianna was delighted with the win and to get more minutes in the tank in Galway:

“We got the job done, we got the win and came home with a clean sheet. For me personally I got my first 90 minutes in a long long time and I managed to come off the pitch healthy.”

The striker is looking forward to the Sligo challenge tomorrow and knows it’s going to be another tough game, especially with Emma Hansberry pulling the strings for the visitors:

“Emma is a fantastic player. Technically I think she is up there as one of the best players that I’ve ever played with. Set pieces, crosses, shots from distance, even giving her the ball in tight areas, you’re going to be in trouble! Alongside Emma they have got a lot of very good players that have caused Wexford trouble in previous games, we lost up in Sligo last year, so we are under no illusion of what can happen again this weekend.”

Tomorrows fixture is the only home game in March for Wexford Youths Women with trips to Cork and Dublin coming up next.

The game will be streamed Live on LOITV from 6pm tomorrow with match commentary from Tadhg Williams and Scott Gaynor.
