It’s the biggest match night since our opening day derby, and a big opportunity for Wexford to make a splash as they host unbeaten Galway on Friday night.
Galway have made the absolute dream start – 7 wins from 7 games and mostly in comfortable fashion. Although they would be the last two men on Earth to admit it – John Caulfield and Ollie Horgan are currently making a lot of people in the league eat humble pie. Again – a big opportunity for Wexford to take a scalp on home turf.
The arrival of Horgan as well as some key signings in Brendan Clarke, Rob Slevin, Colm Horgan, Maurice Nugent and Vincent Borden have brought Galway United on massively – far greater than even the most ambitious Galway fan most likely predicted. The Tribesmen are now the bookies favourites for the title, and by a fair margin – the position held by Waterford going into the season.
Wexford are in mixed form so far – although they would certainly prefer to be sitting in the playoff spots already, they currently sit in 3rd position based on the last five games.
Matters on the pitch have not been helped by a spate of injuries – particularly in the midfield. Kian Corbally may be in line for a return this week, but Aaron Robinson will be out until approximately the summer break, while Evan Farrell is due to be out for another month. The rest of the injured party are likely to remain out for a couple of weeks.
