This Friday, Wexford FC continue their 2023 League of Ireland First Division Campaign with a trip to St Colman’s Park to face Cobh Ramblers.
After a disappointing result in the South-East Derby, James Keddy’s men will be looking to earn their first points of the campaign on their trip to St Colman’s Park, and if recent history between the two clubs is anything to go by, they should fancy their chances. In the 2022 campaign, Wexford bested Cobh in 3 of their 4 meetings, on one occasion hammering The Rams 3-0 at St Colman’s Park. Wexford, ultimately, finished 24 points and 3 positions above the Cork-based side in the league table, but that being said, it’d be unwise to believe that Cobh will be pushovers in any shape or form on Friday night.
Since the appointment of former Wexford Youths boss Shane Keegan at the end of last season, Cobh Ramblers have seen a steady increase in form, and signings such as former Wexford FC player Jack Doherty will surely highlight the threat posed by the Rams to Keddy and his men. This talent possessed by Cobh was highlighted for all to see on the opening day of the current campaign wherein The Rams defeated newly-formed Kerry FC 2-0 away from home in their opening fixture. It should be apparent, therefore, to any reader that in order for Wexford to come away with the three points at St Colman’s Park, the boys will have to be at the top of their game.
