Kylie scores brace in win over Treaty

Wexford Youths Women overcame a gallant Treaty United side at Ferrycarrig Park last night, Kylie Murphy amongst the goals again with two unstoppable headers in a 4-0 win.

Before kick off a special presentation was made to Edel Kennedy who was making her 250th appearance for the club. The midfielder also led the team out as captain.

With Rianna Jarrett injured for a second game running, Murphy again led the line and was straight into the action when her pressing forced Treaty defender Sarah Duke Power into a costly mistimed tackle in the eight minute. With Murphy through on goal the referee deemed the foul to be worthy of a straight red for the Treaty defender.

Aoibheann Clancy made no mistake from the spot to give Wexford an early lead.

The visitors battled well with ten players and the Youths had to be patient and precise in their attacks but chances did come the longer the half went on – Michaela Lawrence forced Ulliac into a decent save at her near post and Orlaith Conlon was unlucky to see her long range effort drift wide of the far post.

The second goal came in the 28th minute, Ciara Rossiter with a cool left foot finish at the back post, her third goal in three games and eight of the season in all competitions.

Two goals down, Treaty had to gamble a bit in the second half and try catch the home team on the counter, their best work coming from Cara Griffin down their right side. The lively winger did well to beat her marker and cut in on goal in the 60th minute but Nicole Nix (making her senior debut) saved her left foot strike.

Ellen Molloy and Emily Corbet were constant threats when they were brought on in the second half, both having attempts on goal within minutes of coming on. Ulliac denied Corbet with a point blank save with her foot and Molloy was inches away with a powerful shot that whizzed by the keepers left hand post.

Treaty’s luck would run out in the 60th minute however, Kylie Murphy scoring with a fine header after a precise cross from Clancy. Thirteen minutes later and Murphy was at it again, another header to the back of the net – Clancy again with the assist, this time from a corner.

The three points safe, the Youths continued to look for more goals and Shauna Carroll was unlucky not to get her first goal for the club when her left foot shot came back off the post in the 85th minute. A minute later and Ulliac did well to save another Carroll effort.

The Limerick side were glad to hear the final whistle to end a long night for them.

Next up for Wexford is Shamrock Rovers at home on September 30th.
