Kylie nets winner against Treaty

A well deserved win for Wexford FC Women at Ferrycarrig last night, Kylie Murphy and Aoibheann Clancy scoring two second half goals against an in-form Treaty United.

The win sees Wexford go up to seventh in the Women’s Premier Division table with a game in hand on most clubs above them. While three points was most welcome, fans will have been impressed by a fine team performance on a cold and wet evening at Ferrycarrig.

In the first half the action was based in the Treaty half, Wexford controlling the ball and patient in possession. Having said that United had the first real chance of the game, Jayne Merren making a good save to deny Canadian attacker Stefanie Young in the 8th minute.

Ciara Rossiter brought Anne Ulliac into action with two powerful left foot strikes in the opening twenty but the keeper was equal to them. A lively Ellen Molloy tested the keeper again in the 23rd minute but there was insufficient power in the shot. Molloy came close again in the 30th minute but her right foot chip just missed the back post.

United had the last chance of an entertaining half when Katie Lawlee shot straight at Merren – scoreless at the break.

The visitors started the second half with more intensity but it was Wexford who opened the scoring, Aoibheann Clancy firing a right foot shot into the corner of the net with an hour gone on the clock.

The response was quick though, United level in the 65th, Cayleigh Boeckx sharp in the box and shooting past Merren.

The goals didn’t stop coming – Kylie Murphy heading Wexford back in front in the 75th minute after a perfect Ciara Rossiter corner.

Treaty poured forward in the final quarter but were unable to make a second comeback, Wexford managing the game well to earn a big three points.
