After last weeks Cup Semi-Finals, both of our Wexford Youths WFC underage sides returned to League action at the weekend with our U17 girls and U19 girls placed third and second in their respective League Tier One tables.
On Saturday afternoon our U17s took on league leaders Shelbourne at Ferrycarrig, the Dublin side having won 19 out of their 20 games played this season. A shock result looked on the cards after Lily-Anne O’Meara (pictured above) fired in the opening goal for the Youths in the 27th minute. The visitors levelled the game five minutes later however, the first half ending at 1-1.

The Reds needed a strong second half to keep their advantage at the top of the table intact and they took the lead with 20 minutes to go. Shelbourne would go on to add two more goals at the end which made the final scoreline look a little flattering to the visitors, the game finishing 4-1 in their favour.
Wexford remain in third spot in the table with three League games to go, the next one been this coming Saturday away to DLR Waves.
On Sunday our U19s continued their very impressive winning run with a 3-1 victory over Peamount United to stay in the hunt for the League title.
Ceola Bergin (pictured above) scored a hat-trick to bring her goal scoring tally up to 27 for the season. The sixteen year old opened the scoring at Ferrycarrig in the 5th minute and added another in the 35th to give Wexford a deserved 2-0 lead at the break. The three points were secure after the young striker netted her third of the day with twelve minutes to go.
The visitors did get on the scoresheet with a Toni Ceno consolation goal in the 90th minute.
Our U19s remain in second place behind leaders Shamrock Rovers.
Wexford will need Rovers to drop points in order for them to catch them with just two League games remaining. The sides will meet each other in a possible League decider later this month.
Next up for our U19s is an away fixture against Sligo on October 22nd.
