Girls Academy Round Up – Week Five

Two good performances and wins for our U19 and U17 girls at the weekend. Noel Martin’s U17 team had to come from behind to take the three points in their game against CK United at Ferrycarrig on Saturday.

The visitors had a lead at the break but Wexford had created plenty of good chances in the first 45 to remain confident of getting back into the game. And so they did – Meah Cuddihy scoring her third of the season to equalise in the 75th minute. Wexford kept pressing for the lead and it eventually came in the 85th minute through super sub Ebony Harris-Burke (pictured on top) who fired in an unstoppable free kick past the keeper. Ebony sealed the win for Wexford with another super right foot strike five minutes later.

The 3-1 win sees Wexford remain second in their group with a home game against Bray up next on Saturday, April 27th.

On Sunday, Stephen Quinn’s U19 team continued their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 away win against Cork City.

Mia Lenihan (pictured above) scored what proved to be the only goal of the game midway in the first half. The wind and heavy pitch at Bishopstown made playing conditions difficult for both sides but Wexford put in a controlled performance for the full 90 minutes against a strong Cork side.

Wexford are now six points clear at the top of their Group and will travel to Limerick to play Treaty United this coming Sunday.
