Wexford FC Women can confirm that Ellen Molloy has completed her move to FA Women’s Championship side Sheffield United. Everyone at the club would like to thank Ellen for all the magical moments she gave us during her time at Ferrycarrig and wish her the very best of luck with this exciting new chapter in her career.
Ellen joined Wexford Youths Women FC from Thomastown United in the summer of 2019 and made her Wexford senior debut on 8th August 2020, scoring a brace in a win over Bohemians at Ferrycarrig Park.
Ellen hit the ground running in the League of Ireland that year and picked up the Player of the Month Award for August and was named Women’s National League Young Player of the Year at the end of her debut season. She also made her Ireland senior debut that year against Ukraine, aged just 16 at the time.
Another successful season for Ellen followed in 2021, winning the FAI Women’s Cup when Wexford defeated Shelbourne in the Final and she was named on the Women’s National League Team of the Year.
After scoring 16 League goals in the 2022 season Ellen was again named on the WNL Team of the Year. Unfortunately Ellen suffered an ACL injury during the League run in that season which saw her out of action for a year but she came back stronger than ever at the end of the 2023 campaign.
An exceptionally talented player and lovely person, Ellen leaves Wexford having played 90 games, scoring 47 goals.
Wexford FC Women Chairperson Alan Browne said:
“Ellen first joined us in the summer 2019. Since that time, she has been a fantastic player and role model for the club both when she represented the club at National League and international level. She has been an inspiration to us all. She has shown huge dedication and commitment to get herself ready for the next challenge. We are very excited for Ellen with this new opportunity and we wish Ellen the very best with Sheffield United.”
