Match Preview | After returning to winning ways at Ferrycarrig last week Wexford Youths Women head to the capital tomorrow for their Sports Direct FAI Cup First Round tie with DLR Waves.
The Youths have come out on top twice in their League meetings with DLR in 2023, the first game seeing Ciara Rossiter and Michaela Lawrence scoring in a 2-0 win at the UCD Bowl in May.
Lizzy Kent’s team were convincing 4-1 winners in the return fixture last week, Kylie Murphy, Rianna Jarrett, Emily Corbet and Abbie Brophy on the scoresheet.
The Waves have lost a few players during the season, Catherine Cronin and Joy Ralph amongst them but the recent arrivals of Eve Conheady, Mia Chambers and Ruth McDonnell have bolstered their ranks. Their All-Island Cup campaign was a welcome distraction after a frustrating run in the League, DLR winning just two out of their last ten games in the Women’s Premier Division. They will be hoping their FAI Cup run can reboot their season.
The Youths are in the same boat. Out of the running in the League, they will be laser focussed on the FAI Cup.
The side have been boosted with the recent return of Lauren Dwyer, Edel Kennedy and Ellen Molloy to the squad. Molloy may be rested again tomorrow however after picking up a niggling muscle injury.
Shauna Carroll has returned to the pitch also but is still a few games away from contention.
Grace Fitzpatrick-Ryan, Della Doherty, Louise Corrigan and Siún Murdiff are long term injury absences.
Kick Off at the UCD Bowl is at 4pm, Saturday 26th August.
The game will be Live streamed on LOITV.
