Wexford FC will welcome Munster Senior League side Avondale Utd to Ferrycarrig Park in the first round of the FAI Cup, with the fixture scheduled to take place the week ending 23 July.
The draw had taken place just a day removed from our 1-1 draw away to Treaty United in Markets Field, which saw us extend our unbeaten run to three matches. The Avondale fixture is set to be played in the midst of what could be a very crucial run of games, with this young Wexford side in contention for a potential play-off spot.
However, Avondale will travel up from Cork looking to cause what would be quite the upset. Finishing midtable in the Munster Senior League this season, the club have notable victories and runs in cup competitions. With 7 victories they have won the FAI Intermediate Cup the most, as well as reaching the Munster Senior Cup Final three times, where they also faced League of Ireland opposition, Cork City (2005), Waterford (2013) and Limerick (2015).
We look forward to welcoming Avondale and their supporters to Wexford!
