MATCH PREVIEW: TREATY UTD VS. WEXFORD FC

Last game of 2022 – let’s finish on a high note!

Wexford FC travel to Treaty United this Friday for their last game of the 2022 First Division season.

A chance for the Wexford lads to get one back over Treaty, and finish on a positive note, after they just edged the last playoff spot in a tightly contested season-long battle.

A win for Wexford would bring us to 41 points for the season – our highest tally since our title-winning promotion season in 2015, when we achieved 61 points.

Another drive for motivation to win this weekend is the fact that Wexford have not beaten Treaty. Our record against them in all 6 games has been 2 draws and 4 losses. Despite missing out on promotion, a win would most certainly put the icing on the cake to an impressive season.

Last time out at Ferrycarrig Park in June, 2 goals for either side within 7 minutes resulted in a 1-1 draw.

The previous game in April ended in late drama with Treaty being awarded a penalty in the 90th minute. Stephen Christopher scored the winner in a 2-1 scoreline, crushing Wexford hearts. Who knows what could have happened if Treaty didn’t get those two points – We may have had a final game fight for promotion!

Treaty come into this game after exiting the FAI Cup on Sunday, losing 2-1 to Derry City in the semi-final. Treaty brought one back with a penalty but all in all, it was a comfortable win for Derry.

Wexford come off the back of keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at home to 3rd place Galway United. That result meant that Wexford are the only side unbeaten at Galway this season, having also drawn the first game, 1-1.

In the last 8 league games, Treaty are the lowest scorers in the league with 8 goals. Wexford however have just one win in their last 8 games.

Treaty have the 2nd best home record in the last 8 games, scoring 14 points, just one behind Waterford (Wexford actually have 13 points at home in last 8, ranking 3rd).

At home, Treaty are unbeaten in their last 3. Wexford on the other hand haven’t won away from home in their last 4, drawing two and losing 2.

Thank you for your continued support throughout season!

Kick-off on Friday is 19:45.
