Edel Kennedy made her 200th Wexford Youths Women's appearance in this afternoon's 2-2 draw with Cork City at Bishopstown Stadium, the midfielder only the second Youths player to reach this landmark (Kylie Murphy made her 200th appearance earlier this season). Kennedy had to be at her best to help Youths take a well deserved point back to the South East after battling back from a goal down and having to play for an hour with ten players after Orlaith Conlon's red card.

Wexford also lost captain Murphy who picked up an injury in the pre-match warm up, Aoibheann Clancy taking her place in the starting eleven. It looked like it might be one of those days when Cork's young striker Lauren Egbuloniu tapped in for the opening goal after four minutes but Youths picked themselves up and started to control proceedings. Sinead Taylor and Clancy both tested the home keeper with good efforts in the opening twenty minutes before Conlon's straight red, the defender pulling Egbuloniu back on the edge of the box on the half hour mark. Aisling Frawley came agonisingly close to levelling for Wexford six minutes later but her right foot shot came back off the post, Taylor firing the rebound wide.

City finished the half strongly, Eabha O'Mahony and Christina Dring with good chances forcing Ciamh Gray into two fine saves. The hosts with a slender lead at the break.

Manager Tom Elmes brought on Blessing Kingsley and Kira Bates Crosbie (for Lauren Kelly and Taylor) on the restart and both players who were part of Youths U17 team last year had starring roles in the second half. Despite been a player down it was Wexford who bossed the game and peppered the home goal with shot after shot. Ellen Molloy and Bates Crosbie had two efforts saved by the busy O'Callaghan in the Cork goal. Bates Crosbie finally got the deserved Wexford equaliser in the 50th minute, getting the final touch on a Kingsley cross. The home side had chances of their own after that but relied heavily on counter attacks, Saoirse Noonan with their best effort with a right foot dipping shot that was tipped over by Gray. The unlucky Frawley again hit the Cork woodwork with a fine left foot strike from outside the box as the game entered a frantic last ten minutes. The winger wasn't to be denied her goal however, just a minute later Frawley cooly slotted past O'Callaghan to make it 2-1 after latching onto an incisive Bates Crosbie pass.

The joy was short-lived however, Katie McCarthy lobbing Gray for the last minute Cork equaliser.

Youths are back in WNL action for the final time this season on Saturday, 5th December with a home game against newly crowned champions Peamount United.
