Wexford Youths Women defeated Galway WFC 3-1 in a thrilling end to end game at Ferrycarrig Park last night, sixteen year old Ellen Molloy once again shining with two goals, one of which will live long in the memory of the lucky few attending. Sinead Taylor also scored her first Youths goal in her third appearance for the club.

There were two changes to the Wexford side that lost to Shelbourne in the League two weeks ago, Lauren Kelly and Aisling Frawley replacing Aoibheann Clancy and Lauren Dwyer (injured). A win for the visitors would see them leapfrog Youths into third place. Youths had the best of the first half with Kelly and Edel Kennedy forcing smart saves from Amanda Budden early on. Ciara Rossiter almost gave the home side a deserved lead in the 29th minute with a stunning left foot strike that had Budden beaten but the ball crashed back off the crossbar and away to safety. Galway found it difficult to create chances throughout the first half, Nicola Sinnott and Lolly Conlon in particular outstanding for Wexford at the back. Shauna Brennan also excelled in the visitors defence and did brilliantly well to block Aisling Frawley's goal bound effort right on half time.

The second half was a much more even affair with chances aplenty for both sides. Rossiter again came close to breaking the deadlock with a long distance free kick in the 50th minute that missed the top corner by inches while moments later Ciamh Gray had to be quick off her line to block Elle O'Flaherty's right foot shot. Galway had their best spell of the game after that and had two great chances to take the lead. First Aoife Thompson headed wide after getting on the end of an O'Flaherty cross in from the wing, then Lynsey McKey fired straight at Gray with the goal at her mercy.

The opening goal of the game finally came in the 69th minute, Taylor (who had replaced Blessing Kingsley) pouncing after Kylie Murphy's left foot strike was parried by Budden. The Wexford lead didn't last long however, Thompson with an immediate reply for Galway with a similar finish to tie the game up. The goals kept on coming though, just five minutes later Molloy had Youths back in front with an unstoppable left foot strike from 30 yards (her sixth of the season).

Wexford had a lucky escape in added time when Budden's free kick from the half way line came off Rossiter's right arm in the Wexford box but no penalty was given. Molloy finally put the game to bed in the 94th minute (goal number seven in her debut season) with a close range finish following an excellent break down Galway's left involving Vanessa Ogbonna and Taylor.

Youths remain third in the table seven points behind leaders Shelbourne with three games to go (Galway and Cork away before ending the WNL season at home to Peamount). Next up however is a FAI Cup Semi Final clash with Peamount which takes place at Ferrycarrig on Sunday, 8th November.
