Wexford FC have secured the transfer of highly talented central defender Jay Nwanze from Heart of Midlothian.

The 19 year old began his career at St. Patrick's Athletic, before moving to Shamrock Rovers and later moving across to Hearts at the beginning of 2019.  Nwanze is both good in the air defensively and with the ball at his feet, a ready-made replacement at centre back following the departure of Paul Cleary before the break.  His transfer was secured just in time to be in the matchday squad for the all-important Cabinteely fixture.  He joins recent signings Jack Doherty and Ola Adeyemo in committing for the push for a playoff place in the 2020 season.

Nwanze has been training with the squad for some weeks now, and has fitted in well says Brian O'Sullivan:

"He works hard at training and keeps his head down and listens.  It's great for him and James [Carroll] having David Breen at the club.  They're two lads who listen and want to learn which is great for us"

"Jay is really good coming out from the back with the ball, he has really impressed us.  He was unlucky in Scotland with injuries so hopefully his luck changes playing for us.  He has slotted in the vacant position really well and is a big boost for us having come on board"
