Top of the Table! 5 games to go!

Wexford Youths overtook Shelbourne last week to climb to the top of the Women’s National League - at long last!

A Stephanie Roche goal for Peamount United, in a 0-1 away win against Shels, was the reason for that.

This was only Shelbourne’s second loss at home this season, their first was against the Youths in June!

The Youths also did their job beforehand with a 5-1 victory over Cork City.

Aoibheann Clancy’s 2 penalties along with goals from Ciara Rossiter, Kylie Murphy, and Ellen Molloy capped of a table-topping performance.

Wexford Youths are now unbeaten in their last 9 games in the league (7 wins, 2 draws) -  and only 1 loss in their last 15.

This Saturday, we come up against a Treaty side who have conceded 3+ goals in each of their last 8 games.

Amongst those games was a 0-3 away win for the Youths back in July, with goals from Rebecca Watkins, Emma Walker & Ellen Molloy on that day. It also finished 3-0 last time out at Ferrycarrig in March.

Wexford Youths have now won their last 3 home matches, scoring at least 3 goals in each game.

We also have the longest unbeaten home run in the league currently with 7 games (5 wins, 2 losses), although DLR Waves are unbeaten in their last 6 (1 win, 5 draws).

Treaty United have never managed to grab a point off Wexford Youths. The Youths have scored 3+ goals against them in 4/5 games - and kept a clean sheet in the last 3 meetings also.

Ellen Molly is looking to score past Treaty for for the 3rd time this season - she has scored one goal in each of the two previous wins already.

Kylie Murphy has scored 3 goals across the last 3 meetings against Treaty. Both Ellen and Kylie will look to continue their goalscoring streak to 4 consecutive games this weekend.

All eyes will be on another potential title decider this weekend, as Athlone Town host Shelbourne - the 2nd week in a row Shels face the team in 3rd place.

Both sides come into this game with the most on-form home and away record respectively, in the last 8 games (Athlone home, Shels away). Coincidentally, both of their records are exactly the same - 6 wins, 2 losses, 18 points.
With 5 games to go, the run-in will not be easy.

In our last 4 games, we face 2nd, 3rd & 4th place - perhaps the toughest finish to the season for any team in the league:
Athlone Town v Wexford Youths
Wexford Youths v Sligo Rovers
Peamount United v Wexford Youths
Wexford Youths v Shelbourne

Could we potentially see a title-winning last game of the season, against Shelbourne Women, at Ferrycarrig Park!?

Kick-off at Ferrycarrig Park is 18:00 on Saturday, 17th September 2022.
