6 games to go – The Countdown is on!

Wexford return to league action this week with an important match against Waterford. With 6 games to go, it is well and truly crunch time for Wexford, as they are now 4 points behind Treaty and the play-off spots.

Wexford will look to bounce back after a missed opportunity to narrow the gap to 1 point behind Treaty. After Treaty surprisingly lost to Athlone for the first time in their history, Wexford could not find a way against Longford the next day.

Two of the top attacking threats in the First Division come up against each other. In the last 10 games, Waterford are top scorers with 21 goals, while Wexford rank 3rd with 18 goals.

Last time out at the RSC in July, Wexford grabbed a 3-1 win against Waterford. Goals from Considine, Dobbs, and Barry capped off a superb second half performance.

However, the two meetings earlier on in the season between the sides resulted in 3 points going Waterford’s way on both occasions; 2-0 at Ferrycarrig Park in April, and 2-1 in March.

Wexford will need to improve their home form to push towards the play-off spots. They have only managed 2 wins in the last 8 league games (and 3 draws). However, 2 of these wins have come in their last 4 home games, and they have only lost once in their last 5.

On the other hand, Waterford have one of the best records away from home this season, They have only lost 1 game in their last 8. In that time, they have also scored the most goals away from home in the division (21), and also conceded the least amount of goals of any team (5).

Also this Friday, Treaty face Cobh Ramblers. Cobh have never beaten Treaty, however in their last 6 games, there has been 3 draws between the sides.

Fun Fact: In the last 31 meetings between the sides in all competitions, there has never been a draw.
