A return to Ferrycarrig Park for Wexford Youths WFC after two league games on the road. They chance to close the gap to just 2 points at the top of the table between.

A key game lies ahead, particularly as Shels are not in league action this weekend. They currently sit 5 points ahead, but with 1 extra game played over the Youths.

This is the third meeting between Wexford Youths and DLR Waves in a month, in all competitions. The most recent of which coming just two weeks ago in the FAI Cup – a comfortable 3-1 win for Wexford, also Ferrycarrig Park. Nicola Sinnott scored early on, and late goals from Ellen Molloy and Ciara Rossiter sealed the win.

Despite this, a stalemate draw was the outcome in the reverse fixture at the UCD Bowl last month. However, the first meeting between the sides at Ferrycarrig Park this season in May saw the Youths win 2-0.

Wexford Youths however are currently the joint most on-form side in the league with Athlone, in the last 6 games (4 wins, 2 draws). They also have the best defensive record in the last 8 league games, conceding just 4 goals – and have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 6 games.

Wexford Youths Women have also maintained their impressive home form, and are unbeaten in their last 5 – and have still only lost one game at Ferrycarrig Park this season.

A big game at the top of the table also sees Athlone host Peamount. A win for the Youths is also vital for this reason as Athlone have the opportunity to overtake us once again.

Both Nicola Sinnott and Ciara Rossiter have scored either side of half time against DLR Waves on both occasions at Ferrycarrig Park this season, in the league and FAI Cup. Ellen Molloy also has 3 goals in her last 3 games, and scored at Ferrycarrig Park against DLR Waves previously.

Kick-off is 18:00 this Saturday, 20th August 2022 at Ferrycarrig Park.

Don’t forget that a Club Celebration Day is being held at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday, in recognition of Women's Football in Wexford and the South East.

The days’ events will also include a Photo Exhibition of Wexford Youths Women FC 'Through the Years' in the clubhouse and Award Presentations to some of our Club Legends. A commemorative Match Programme will be on offer with plenty of refreshments for those attending. There will be surprises and special guests on the day so it's not to be missed!
