Match Preview: Wexford FC vs. Waterford FC
It's the biggest game at Ferrycarrig Park in years, with a win putting Wexford on level points with South East rivals Waterford.
It's been a derby badly missed in Wexford for many seasons, but this one promises to be scintillating. Waterford unfortunately find themselves in poor form lately, with just one win in their last six games. This form has seen the departure of manager Ian Morris, confirmed today in a statement from the club. Waterford will be managed by two very familiar faces to Wexford fans - our assistant manager in the last regime, David Breen, and former Wexford Youths Women manager Gary Hunt. The pressure will be on the Blues for a quick return to form.
For Wexford, the prospect of moving onto level pegging with Waterford is something that seemed completely unimaginable 12 months ago. Ian Ryan's side come into Friday night in better form, with 5 points from their last 5 games.
We are also buoyed by Aaron Dobbs' spectacular form of late, with 3 goals in 3 games for his hometown club and no sign of slowing down. Jack Doherty is also coming into excellent form, after running riot against Cobh Ramblers at home last week.
