Wexford Youths Women can move into second place in the table this Saturday with a win over Athlone Town Ladies.

Nearest rivals Shelbourne have an idle weekend ahead, meaning the Youths Women will be playing their "game in hand" and can move into second with a win.

Top of the table Peamount meanwhile are away to Bohemians, who put up a superb fight against Shelbourne last time out.

Wexford though will certainly have a fight on their hands in their own game, Athlone regularly causing Wexford a real fight in their last two years in the Women's National League.   In April this year, it looked all the world like Athlone were going to hold Wexford to a scoreless draw here at Ferrycarrig Park, until talismanic midfielder Muireann Devaney received a second yellow and Kylie Murphy slotted home a penalty in the 80th minute. It was the same story last year in Athlone’s first ever WNL tie, at Lissywoolen in 2020 it took until the 72nd minute for Aisling Frawley to break the deadlock. And once again in this year’s FAI Cup competition, with Emily Corbet opening the scoring to put Athlone 1-0 up against Athlone after 20 minutes. Eventually Wexford’s individual talent shone through, with a brace from Rossiter and a goal from Ellen Molloy putting the Youths through to the semi final.

All are welcome to come and cheer on the Youths, with plenty of tickets on sale at the gate.  If you can't be there on the night, join our free livestream on LOITV with live commentary from Ronan McCarthy and Nikki Dunphy

Kickoff at Ferrycarrig Park is set for 6.30pm
