#STRONGERTOGETHER

📸 Tough one to take tonight. But heads up, back in action in seven days time at home to Bray. https://t.co/fzHLG5y1JU

Wexford FC go back on the road this Friday night, with a difficult trip to take on league leaders Athlone Town.

Make no mistake, this is a very different Athlone Town side in 2021.  It is 3 years this week since Wexford FC took their record 7-0 win over De Town, but the Midlands side have undergone a radical change for the better during the off-season this year.

Indeed Athlone were quite possibly the most impressive First Division side in the transfer market, bringing in seasoned professionals such as Kurtis Byrne, Micheal Schlingermann and Derek Daly.  The names don't stop there, as they have also moved to sign former Wexford Youths talents Killian Cantwell and Aidan Friel.  Consider also Jamie Hollywood, Stephen Meaney, and James Doona, and you've got a very serious First Division outfit indeed.

It's no accident therefore that Athlone find themselves top of the table, taking 10 points from a possible 12.

This week has seen seismic action in European football, with many football dismayed at the attempt to introduce a monopolistic European Super League.  If you wish to support true domestic Irish football, we encourage you to watch the match LIVE on LOITV.ie.  100% of the proceeds of your season pass or match pass will go towards the League of Ireland club of your choice.

There are no new absentees in Wexford's injury list, with Cameron Power remaining out for the long-term while Jack Connolly and Ayman Yousif may return sooner.

Kickoff at Lissywoolen is set for 7.45pm
