Wexford FC are delighted to announce that Charlie Smith has re-signed for the new season, the 20 year old attacking midfielder made 18 appearances in his first season at the club in 2020. He moved to Ferrycarrig Park from UCD last February and quickly became a regular in the starting line up. Charlie spoke to our media team at training this week about his return to the South East:

"I'm happy to be back. Last season unfortunately didn't go as planned, we started well but found it hard to find our form again after the Covid break. I myself want to improve my performances from last season, I have been training hard during the off season so I want to contribute more to the team this year. I want to add more goals and assists to my game."

The Dubliner has been impressed with the new arrivals at the club so far but is realistic about the challenges ahead:

"We've added a lot of quality to the squad with the likes of Paul Fox and Jack Connolly joining us. To improve on last season though we need to show better quality going forward and stop making silly mistakes that lead to us conceding, hopefully we can push for a play off place this year."

Wexford take on Drogheda United tomorrow afternoon in a pre-season friendly.
