Highly rated young defender Daniel Dobbin has signed for Wexford FC from St Patrick's Athletic, the 19 year old captained the Saints side that were crowned SSE Airtricity National U19 League Champions last year. Daniel began his football journey with Wayside Celtic and then moved into the DDSL with Crumlin United. He then had a spell with Cherry Orchard before signing for St Patrick's Athletic in 2018. After a short spell with the the U17 team he progressed to the Pat's U19s, playing with them for two years was also involved with the first team at Richmond Park in 2020.

Daniel said he is looking forward to a new challenge at Ferrycarrig Park this season:

"I was in for pre-season with St Pat's and came to the conclusion game time was the most important thing for me and Brian (O'Sullivan) offered the chance to come and impress and thankfully he liked me and I accepted the offer to sign. Training has been great, a fresh start is always good and it's great to see some of the lads and just enjoy football during these tough times with the Covid lockdown. I'm looking forward to playing at Ferrycarrig Park, I haven't played there before. With my time at Pat's we played in the North Division so I haven't had the chance to play there yet but some of the lads have been telling me that it's a great ground with good facilities."

With the new SSE Airtricity First Division season fast approaching, the Dublin native can't wait to get back to competitive action:

"This season will be interesting with the likes of Shels and Cork dropping down, they will be great matches to be involved in and an opportunity to show what we're about. A good season for me would be to play as much games as possible and help Wexford push up the table and achieve a play off place. I'm excited to see where the season takes me!"

Daniel becomes the second player from last years St Patrick's Athletic U19 title winning team to come to Wexford (striker Success Edogun signed earlier this month) and Manager Brian O'Sullivan is thrilled to have secured the signatures of such promising young players for the season ahead:

"'Dobbo' is a lad we had watched while at Pat's. He was regarded as one of the best right backs in the U19 League with Darragh Power who is a regular with Waterford. He was very unlucky by all accounts not to get a pro contract at Pat's. He is so comfortable defending, technically good on the ball and great at going forward, if he can replicate his performance at underage level now to senior level he stands a really good chance of playing games this season. It increases competition all over the pitch which is great to have. I certainly think he will go onto bigger and better things over the years and hopefully that's with us here at Wexford."

O'Sullivan now has a good mix of youth and experience in his squad which will kick off the 2021 season at home to Cabinteely on 26th March:

"We have a good group of lads either still playing U19s or just out of U19s that we want to be patient with, develop them over time and help them become first team regulars. Hopefully with the likes of Success, Cameron Power, Dobbo, Kieran Murphy and Evan Farrell we can blood the lads in and not rush them. I felt over the years lads coming out of the U19s were thrown into the deep end when they were not yet ready and it wasn't good for their development. They have plenty of experienced lads around them now they can learn off and hopefully they'll do that by playing next to the likes of Jack Doherty, Dan Tobin and Karl Manahan."

Wexford FC will have news on more new arrivals at Ferrycarrig Park in the coming days.
