Wexford Youths Women FC are delighted to introduce the management team for our U19 side that will compete in the inaugural SSE Airtricity U19 Women's National League this season. John Carroll (pictured above) has been appointed Manager with a backroom team comprising of Alan Smith (Head Coach), Xander Coolbear (Assistant Coach) and Megan Butler (Goalkeeping Coach).

John has had huge success as manager of Courtown Hibs Ladies for the past five years, achieving promotion in four of those five seasons in the Wexford Women's Football League. He has a wealth of experience managing and coaching at schoolgirl level and was involved in the Wexford Ladies Representative squad the last two years. Pre-season prep is well underway for the 2021 season and John is looking forward to working with the girls and hopes to both help develop their game and their integration to the Senior team.

Alan Smith (Head Coach)

Alan Smith (pictured above) takes up the role as U19 Head Coach after spending the past five years coaching with Hanover Harps U14 and U16 teams helping them win numerous Carlow League and Cup titles (their U16 team reached the FAI Women's Cup Final in 2019). Alan is also involved with the Carlow girls academies (he has also set up an U10 development academy to get younger girls involved) and has over five years coaching experience with Carlow Gaynor Cup squads. A number of players from those Gaynor Cup squads have progressed to play in the Women's National League in recent seasons.

Xander Coolbear (Assistant Coach)

Assistant Coach Xander Coolbear (pictured above) is no stranger to the Wexford Youths Women's underage set up having been involved since day one, in fact this will be his fourth season at the club having previously been Assistant Coach with the club's U17 squad (Youths making it all the way to the U17 Women's National League Final in 2019). Xander started coaching at 15 with his local club Cappaquin and managed IT Carlow women's team last year. He is currently completing his final year of Sports Coaching and Management in IT Carlow.

Megan Butler (Goalkeeping Coach)

Goalkeeping Coach Megan Butler (pictured above) is also no stranger to Ferrycarrig Park having coached with Wexford FC U13 and U15 Boy's teams last season (working alongside Senior Men's goalkeeper Tom Murphy) and already has playing experience at Women's National League level having spent two seasons with Kilkenny United WFC. Starting her playing career with Bree United, Megan has gone on to have major success with Forth Celtic in the Wexford Women's League (treble winners in 2020) and played with the Wexford Women's county senior team as well as the U19 county team that won the All Ireland in 2019. She is studying Sports Coaching and Business Management in IT Carlow.

Wexford Youths Women FC Chairperson Alan Browne spoke to the club's media team about the new U19 management appointments:

"The addition of the new U19 National League is a welcome addition and one we are excited to be part of. I'm delighted to welcome our new U19 management team of John Carroll and coaches Alan Smith, Xander Coolbear and Megan Butler. The four bring a wealth of experience in football from right across the South East region. On behalf of the club I'd like to take this opportunity to wish them the very best of luck in the season ahead."
