Wexford FC sign midfielder Jack Connolly
Ex-Sunderland and Cabinteely midfielder Jack Connolly is the latest player to join the Wexford FC squad for the 2021 season, we can now reveal.
The 20 year-old played his junior football with St. Francis, and played with some familiar names in the Wexford team such as Tom Murphy and Charlie Smith, before moving to the Stadium of Light at age 16.
Connolly is a versatile central midfielder, keen to be in possession and make life difficult for the opposition:
"I'll be looking to hopefully dictate games and be aggressive when I'm not in possession and try to get up against people."
Connolly relished his time with the Black Cats playing at U18 and U23 level, before moving back across to play closer to home. Connolly signed for Cabinteely late in the 2020 season making 11 appearances, but was happy to make the move to Wexford for the coming season:
"This'll be the first pre-season I'll have in winter, being away in England before I was at Cabinteely. I'm looking forward to getting going straight away and get as fit as possible for the season, whenever it starts."
Although not quite at the scale of his previous home-ground, Jack was eager to start playing in front of the Wexford public:
"I know a couple of lads down here, they spoke highly of the place so I can't wait to get started and hopefully the fans can come in and we can play in front of them"
