Wexford FC U15 | Excellent win on the road for our U15s up at Marlay Park, Andrew Synoradzki on target for us today as it fini… https://t.co/3byoZNh7BN

Wexford FC were defeated in their first home game of the new season by an energetic talented Galway United team who were dominant on a cold wet blustery evening at Ferrycarrig Park. Brian O'Sullivan made two changes from the line up in Athlone last week, Danny Furlong suspended of course for this one, so Emmanuel Lawal and Sean Kelly started in place of Furlong and Danny Doyle.

Wexford had an encouraging opening period and although United looked the sharper and edged possession Paddy Cahill had two decent efforts just off target before Donal Higgins curled in a delightful opening goal for the visitors on 25 minutes.

Four minutes later and the lead was doubled, Owen McCormack's clearance blocked down and Conor Barry the quickest to respond with a left foot shot into the net from close range. The confidence slipped a little for Wexford at that point and although the effort could not be faulted to get back into the game it was difficult to see where a goal was going to come from, Galway defending well and not allowing any time or space to the home team.

Into the second half and not much had changed before the game was decided by a third goal for the Tribesmen when Maurice Nugent struck from an angle after Wexford failed to clear inside their own box with a half an hour still left on the clock. Eight minutes after that third goal and Danny Doyle received a second harsh yellow card to end his evening, United's players making a meal out of the Kilkenny's mans tackles on both occasions.

Galway managed the game well till the end, adding a fourth goal through Colin Kelly who capitalised on a kind deflection to find the net on 82 minutes. Joe Walshe made two fine stops in the second half to keep the score down but in truth it was a night to forget in the rain.
