Wexford FC Highlights from last weeks @WexfordFC U15s game vs Cobh Ramblers at St Colmans Park which ended 3-3. Rian Fitzpatri… https://t.co/p1zyckvjVz

A tough night at Tolka for Wexford FC as we were beaten 4-1 by Shelbourne on Friday night with Dean Kelly on target for the third time this season. Damian Locke named an unchanged side from the one that drew at home to Finn Harps seven days previously at Ferrycarrig but Wexford found it hard going from the get go as the Reds attacked both flanks early on to put the visitors on the back foot.

It took just 8 minutes for Shelbourne to take the lead as Shane Farrell nodded in from a corner. Wexford continued to struggle with set pieces and crosses throughout the match, Evans in particular causing havoc down Wexfords right flank. The home team doubled their advantage just after the half hour mark when Prendergast headed in from close range and apart from a couple of breakaway attacks and a long range shot from Aaron Dobbs, there was little to shout about for the Wexford travelling supporters in the first 45.

Wexford were far better in the second half and forced Shelbourne deeper and deeper without really creating too many goalscoring opportunities but managed to force a few corners and increase the pressure on the home team, which culminated in a Dean Kelly goal on 52 mins when he struck from the edge of the box to put us back into the game. Twenty minutes later Prendergast scored his second, and Shelbournes third, another header from a Fitzgerald free kick to put the home team back in control. An Owen McCormack own goal three minutes from the end flattered the scoreline a bit for the Reds as they ran out comfortable winners in the end.
