Wexford FC Highlights from last weeks @WexfordFC U15s game vs Cobh Ramblers at St Colmans Park which ended 3-3. Rian Fitzpatri… https://t.co/p1zyckvjVz

An injury hit Wexford FC side were narrowly defeated by promotion favourites Drogheda United at United Park on Friday night. There were five changes to the team that started against Longford as John Morgan, Dean George, Dean Kelly, Danny Doyle and Conor Sutton replaced Hurley, Nolan, Lehane, Byrne and Slater. Top scorer Aaron Dobbs missed out on the fifth game in a row with his ankle injury.

Conor Sutton made his long waited return from injury and started in midfield and even made it through the full 90 minutes although there were enforced changes for Damian Locke when Shane Barnes and Ross Kenny were forced off through yet more injuries for Wexford to contend with.

In a very even first half, Shane Barnes had the first chance with a long range stinging effort that the keeper parried, while Thomas Croke came close twice to opening the scoring for Wexford. Somewhat against the run of play, Chris Lyons converted from a rebound on 33 mins to give the hosts a half time lead. The second 45 played out similarly as Croke again had a fine effort that went too high while Lee Duffy came close for the home team with a left foot shot from outside the box that was well saved by Kealan Gaffney. Duffy was fortunate to be still on the pitch having been booked for diving in the first half and repeating the same blatant attempt at winning a penalty in the second half. The referee ignored Wexfords valid protests. In the end, a penalty decided the game, Sean Brennan converting with 10 minutes remaining to award all three points to the home team.

Wexford FC : Kealan Gaffney, Liam McCartan, Ross Kenny (c) (Sean Kelly 79), Owen McCormack, John Morgan, Conor Sutton, Thomas Croke, Dean Kelly, Dean George, Shane Barnes (Owen Wall 55) and Danny Doyle (Mark Slater 75).  Subs Not Used: Colum Feeney and Aaron Dobbs.
