Wexford FC suffered their third League defeat in a row on Friday night when Longford Town scored a goal in each half to grab all three points in Ferrycarrig Park. There were three changes to the side that started in the heavy U.C.D loss four days earlier with Ross Kenny, Liam McCartan and Thomas Croke replacing Sean Kelly, Dean George and Dean Kelly.

In truth both sides struggled over the 90 minutes to create many chances, Shane Barnes having Wexfords best effort on 7 minutes when his left foot shot was well saved by Kelly in the Longford goal. The opener for Longford came on the 20th minute when Jamie Hollywood struck superbly as Wexford failed to clear a corner and the Longford man buried it into the top corner giving Gaffney no chance. Mark Slater had an effort that flew wide before half time but that was about as close as the home side was to come over the 90 minutes.

The second goal for Longford came from another corner, on the 55th minute Chris Mulhall nodded in from close range to make it 2-0 to the visitors. There was no shortage of effort from Wexford but the Longford keeper was rarely tested, a few blocked efforts as close as the home team came to troubling him.

Wexford FC : Kealan Gaffney, AJ Lehane, Ross Kenny (c), Owen McCormack, Sean Hurley, Thomas Croke, Liam McCartan (Danny Doyle 82), Mikey Byrne, Mark Slater (Dean George 54), Shane Barnes and Ryan Nolan (Dean Kelly 71). Subs Not Used : Collum Feeney, Sean Kelly, John Morgan and Aaron Dobbs.
