To come away with a feeling of disappointment of not taking any points from League leaders U.C.D on their home soil shows the measure of performance from Wexford FC on Friday night. Seeing the sight of such a great footballing team like U.C.D thump the ball out of their half under pressure shows another.

But defeat it was in the end. There was only one change to the Wexford side that struck 7 past Athlone 7 days earlier with captain Ross Kenny replacing AJ Lehane after his return from suspension. The start couldn't have been worse as Wexford were two down inside twenty minutes with Jason McClelland and Georgie Kelly finishing classy moves from the home side. Aaron Dobbs pulled one back from the penalty spot on the half hour after some great work down the wing and a great run into the box before been fouled for the spot kick. Then right before the break, Gary O'Neill made it 3-1 and it seemed an uphill battle from there.

But Wexford FC were the better side in the second half, although U.C.D had their moments, it took some good defending to keep Wexford out although Mark Slater did get a deserved goal with a cracking shot off the post on 51 minutes. Despite intense pressure, the home side hung on in the end to take the three points.

Wexford FC : Kealan Gaffney, Liam McCartan, Ross Kenny (c), Sean Kelly, Sean Hurley,  Mikey Byrne (Danny Doyle 83), Thomas Croke (Ryan Nolan 77), Dean Kelly, Mark Slater, Shane Barnes and Aaron Dobbs (Dean George 60).  Subs Not Used: Owen McCormack, AJ Lehane and Colum Feeney.
