Wexford Youths set up a meeting with Shelbourne in the Só Hotels Women’s National League Cup final after powering their way past Limerick FC in their last four clash in Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday evening.

First-half strikes from Rianna Jarrett and Edel Kennedy had them firmly in the driving seat and Vanessa Ogbonna grabbed their third shortly before the hour mark, with goals from substitute Blessing Kingsley and Aisling Frawley putting the icing on the cake late on.

It took Wexford Youths just 16 minutes to break the deadlock when McKenna Davidson sent in a cross from the left and Rianna Jarrett took a touch before firing a shot to the net.

Limerick showed one or two moments of promise, with a speculative effort from Sylvia Gee clearing the crossbar in the 20thminute, although Wexford were always in control and moments later Edel Kennedy was put in the clear by a long-range Nicola Sinnott pass but blazed her effort off target.

Kennedy made amends in the 29th minute though as Kylie Murphy burst forward with purpose and slipped a pass through to her fellow midfielder, who applied a neat finish past goalkeeper Karen Connolly.

The chances continued to come for the hosts and three minutes later Jarrett turned on the edge of the area and warmed the gloves of Connolly, while in the 38th minute Doireann Fahey played an inviting ball across the face of goal but Kennedy couldn't turn it into the net.

The second-half started in a similar vein and Edel Kennedy had another sight of goal just two minutes in, but she couldn't get enough power on her shot to trouble Connolly after being found by Jarrett.

However, Limerick then enjoyed a bright spell and in the 52th minute they threatened when Sophie Liston showed great determination to shake off a couple of challenges but her deflected effort was comfortably gathered by goalkeeper Sophie Lenehen.

Wexford then regained the initiative in some style in the 59th minute when Doireann Fahey put Vanessa Ogbonna in the clear with a perfectly-weighted pass, and the attacker did the rest, coolly rolling the ball past Connolly.

Limerick kept plugging away and Aoife Horgan's long-range effort was comfortably stopped by Lenehan in the 64th minute, but Wexford always looked capable of adding to their tally and Aisling Frawley twice saw efforts cleared off the line in quick succession, before Kennedy blasted the follow-up over the crossbar.

The fourth goal did eventually come when substitute Blessing Kingsley finished with aplomb in the 87th minute and they added another late on when Aisling Frawley got on the scoresheet after some great work by Jarrett on the left.

The all-conquering Wexford Youths now have their eyes on more silverware after this win set up a final meeting with Shelbourne, who edged out holders Peamount United 2-1 in the other semi-final.
