Wexford FC RT @YouthsWomen: ⚽️ @bkingslxy hat-trick from @YouthsWomen U17s win over @LimerickFCWomen at Ferrycarrig on Saturday!🎩⚽️💗 https://t.co/C9wU…

Wexford Youths Women fell five points behind WNL leaders Peamount United at the weekend after a goalless draw with Shelbourne FC at Frank Cooke Park in Dublin, a result neither side were happy with given the start Peamount have made to the season (7 wins out of 7). After a quiet opening, the first chance of the game fell to the hosts, Noelle Murray's effort coming back off the post and away to safety. The Dublin side had the majority of possession in the first half but rarely threatened after that early close call, Wexford looking more dangerous on the break and causing problems at set pieces. Rianna Jarrett volleyed over before Youths best chance of the first 45 which fell to Vanessa Ogbonna who raced onto a Kylie Murphy through ball but rushed her shot and missed the target. Jarrett again came close to opening the scoring just before the break, heading over from a Doireann Fahey corner.

Shelbourne were again quickest out of the blocks in the second half and young Wexford keeper Maeve Williams (still also part of the U17 squad) had to be at her very best to keep out Murray's shot on the hour mark, improvising well and saving with her feet. The home side continued to retain possession well but could not find or create any clear cut openings and as the second half went on, Youths began to threaten again. Murphy tried to chip McQuillan in the Shelbourne goal in the 75th minute from distance, her effort just clearing the crossbar but the best chance of the game fell to Katrina Parrock with just five minutes remaining on the clock, Jarrett unfortunate to see her right foot shot come back off the woodwork, falling to Parrock who took her shot early but could only find the side netting.

Youths remain two points clear of Shelbourne who are in third, next up is another trip to the capital on Saturday evening with a game vs DLR Waves.
