Wexford Youths Women booked a date with Cork City Women in the WNL Shield Cup Final after a tough 2-1 win over Shelbourne LFC at the weekend. It was the second meeting between the two teams after last weeks 3-2 defeat in the League at Ferrycarrig. There were two changes to the starting line up that night, Ciamh Dollard and McKenna Davidson replacing Sophie Lenehan and Rianna Jarrett who was on Irish duty the day before.

Youths were ahead after just 7 minutes, Davidson with her first goal since joining this year, racing onto a Lolly Conlon pass before tucking it under the keeper and into the net. The home team had the better of the opening half without creating too many clear cut chances but were pegged back when Katrina Parrock nodded into her own net from a Shels corner after 20 minutes.

Aisling Frawley put Wexford back in front after 55 minutes, a left foot strike to the corner after Shels failed to clear. From then on in the away team were the better side, Kate Mooney slicing wide in front of goal before Jess Gleeson tested Dollard from distance with a rasping free kick the keeper did well to palm away right at the death. In the end, Wexford shaded it but will probably need a better performance the final time these sides meet in what might be the League decider on September 26th.
