Wexford Youths Women ended their Champions League qualifiers on a high note with a much deserved win over Northern Ireland Champions and group hosts Linfield Ladies FC at the Seaview Stadium in Belfast yesterday. Youths finish third in the group, both Ajax and Thor/KA qualifying to the knockout round.

There was just one change from the side that lost to Thor/KA on Friday, Becky Cassin starting at left back ahead of Doireann Fahey. In that game Youths were slow out of the blocks and went behind early and left themselves with too much to do against a quality side, this time out they made sure not to repeat that mistake, Aisling Frawley already going close with a shot from outside the box before Kylie Murphy headed Youths into the lead in the 12th minute. Just seven minutes later Rianna Jarrett grabbed her second goal of the tournament with a stunning header from a super Nicola Sinnott cross. Frawley almost made it three on the half hour, once again her shot narrowly wide before Linfield got a fortunate goal, Megan Bells free kick deflecting off the Wexford wall into the net giving Sophie Lenehan no chance just on half time.

The second 45 was a much more cagey affair with few chances although Youths still had the better of it, Edel Kennedy and sub Katrina Parrock close to putting Wexford out of touch before a 90th minute equalizer for Linfield. Once again a touch of fortune as Clare Timoney converted after a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-2 to send the home crowd wild. Emma Hansberry, who was excellent all game, saw a fine effort from outside the box saved by Perry before a late late winner from Kylie Murphy who found the net with the last kick of the game (in the 94th minute!) angling a Hansberry corner into the net for a stunning win.
