A comfortable win for Wexford Youths Women over Kilkenny United at the Watershed last night as the reigning WNL champions continued their unbeaten run in 2018 to 17 games (16 wins and a draw). The win leaves Youths nine points clear (having played one more game than their nearest rival) with six games to go.

There were two changes from the Cup win over Galway at the weekend, Aoife Slattery and Aisling Frawley starting in place of Edel Kennedy and Emma Hansberry. There was no complacency from Wexford who started strong with good chances for Rianna Jarrett, Orla Casey and Katrina Parrock before Kylie Murphy opened the scoring with a super free kick from an angle just after the half hour mark. Rianna Jarrett doubled the advantage with a fine solo effort 6 minutes later before Katrina Parrock headed in from a corner to put the game to bed before half time.

The second half continued in much the same manner, Youths in control although Carla McManus looked very lively for the home team upfront and had two good efforts well saved by Ciamh Dollard. Parrock made it 4-0 with a close range finish before Jarrett completed her hat-trick with two stunning goals, the first a clever turn and thumping early shot from outside the box and then a classy finish after sub McKenna Davidson had put her through with a fine pass.

Next up, a huge UEFA Champions League Qualifier clash with Ajax in Belfast on Tuesday afternoon.
