Wexford Youths Women booked their place in the League Cup Final with a narrow 2-1 win over Galway WFC at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday evening. They remain unbeaten in 2018 but Galway probably came as close as anyone to ending that record, twice been denied by the woodwork in the second half.

Youths found it difficult to create proper clear cut chances against a dogged Galway defence in the first 45, but still there were decent efforts from Rianna Jarrett, Orla Casey and Emma Hansberry before the sides went in scoreless at the break. The visitors didn't have any real chance of note up to that point although Lynsey McKey was causing plenty of trouble for Orlaith Conlon and Lauren Dwyer constantly harrying our centre backs into rushed passes and clearances.

Katrina Parrock opened the scoring in the 58th minute after a rasping Orla Casey effort forced Tina Hughes into a fine near post save that resulted in a corner for Youths. Hansberry delivered a perfect delivery and Parrock glanced a header into the net from close range to put the home team in control. It was short-lived however as a dangerous Mckey free kick deflected off the unfortunate Edel Kennedy for an own goal and the equalizer just minutes later. Galway were on the front foot from then on, McKey with another excellent free kick that Ciamh Dollard tipped onto the crossbar quickly followed by the woodwork again helping Youths out when Lucia Lobato was denied after another fine shot came back off the bar to safety.

The winner arrived in the 82nd minute with a stunning long range chip by Emma Hansberry, quick thinking and perfect execution as she beat Hughes form 35 yards  out. A terrific way to win a Cup semi final.
