Wexford Youths Women extended their lead on top of the WNL to six points with this 4-1 victory over Kilkenny United WFC at the Watershed last night. Tom Elmes made six changes from the side that won at Peamount four days previously, including debuts for Doireann Fahey and Aoife Slattery.

It was always going to be difficult finding a rhythm with that many changes but credit must go to Kilkenny United WFC who frustrated Wexford for long periods in the opening 45, Becky Conroy coming closest with a thumping header that went narrowly wide. Kilkenny played a high line and the Youths couldn't get that final ball right and anytime they did, the Kilkenny keeper Niamh Coombes was quick of her line and made some brave interceptions to keep the game scoreless at half time.

It wasn't long into the second 45 though that the deadlock was broken, a lovely one two between Doireann Fahey and Becky Conroy with Fahey shooting into the bottom corner to give Youths the lead on her debut. Fahey looked lively down the left throughout and later teed up Emma Hansberry with a perfect cross into the box, Hansberrys shot coming off the post. Hansberry herself provided assists from corners for goals from Orlaith Conlon (her second of the season) and Kylie Murphy (her 3rd) before finally getting on the scoresheet herself after a delightful flick from Conroy to put Hansberry through who chipped the advancing keeper for goal number four.

Leah Doyle got the goal of the game though with a cracking long range effort giving Ciamh Dollard no chance and was just reward for a young team who made the reigning champions work hard for the valuable three points on the night.
