Another super team performance, another two goals from Rianna Jarrett and another three points for Wexford Youths Women as they extend their lead to four points at the top of the WNL after a 2-1 win in Dublin against Peamount United on Saturday night.

Tom Elmes chose the same team that won so convincingly at Limerick last week while Peamount saw the return from injury of Amber Barrett to their forward line but she never really threatened as the Leagues best defence gave nothing away all game with United restricted to long range efforts, none troubling Ciamh Dollard in the Wexford net in the absence of Sophie Lenehan.

Edel Kennedy in midfield was exceptional all game, both disrupting Peamounts creative players and also looking threatening going forward with two fine efforts on target. The games first goal arrived on 36 minutes when Aisling Frawley was taken down inside the box after hustling the Peas defence and charging towards goal. Rianna Jarrett stepped up and cooly tucked it into the corner for her seventh goal in just three matches.

Straight after the break and Youths were two up, this time Jarrett getting on the end of a Becky Cassin through ball and chipping the keeper delightfully for goal number 8 in 3 games (and 13 for the season). After that Peamount pressed forward and forced Youths back, Karen Duggan with a fine shot that was just too high but they never really got behind the Wexford defence all game, Lauren Dwyer and Orlaith Conlon as combative as ever with Nicola Sinnott and Becky Cassin cutting out everything on the flanks. A soft penalty given in the 86th minute which was dispatched by Barrett made it a nervy finish (Youths were 2 up against Peamount at Ferrycarrig in April but that game finished 2-2) but it was the reigning champs celebrating at the final whistle with another vital three points to stay ahead of the chasing pack.
