Wexford Youths Women continued their excellent recent form this evening at Ferrycarraig Park as second half goals from Aisling Frawley, Claire O’Riordan and Carol Breen took the three points against a resilient Cork City side in the National Women's League.

The Leesiders started in a compact shape and the game saw a lot of midfield battles in the opening ten minutes before goalkeeper Trish Fennelly pulled from Jarrett to keep the scores level. Stacey Paul then saw her free kick whistle just over before her volley stung the hands of Nicole Furlong.

The returning Rhianna Jarrett was frustrated by Fennelly a number of times, the stopper pulled off a series of saves to keep the Wexford striker at bay. First she gathered a long range effort before Jarrett saw an effort ruled out for offside. Jarrett was then disposed as she was about to pull the trigger by Lorna O’Connell only to see Kylie Murphy fizz in an effort that Fennelly parried out.

Claire O’Riordan and Carol Breen came off the bench for the hosts in the second half and their introduction was crucial as they turned the tide for the hosts. After possession was lost in the middle of the park for City, the ball was worked to Ashling Frawley who powered through the middle of the defence before rounding Fennelly and slotting the ball home.

Trish Fennelly then pulled off a huge stop from Claire O’Riordan with a superb save before getting a one handed stop to the rebound. However, she couldn’t keep Wexford at bay for too much longer as O’Riordan powered through the centre of the park and hammered home a strike beyond Fennelly.

Carol Breen then added a third after eighty minutes, with the midfielder wrapping up the three points with a fantastic finish beyond the Cork keeper. Evelyn Daly had a chance for a consolation for the Leesiders at the death but her shot went just wide.
