Wexford FC RT @byrne_padraig: Also in tomorrow’s @Wexford_People is a fascinating story of a teenager who is swapping his native Odense in Denmark to…

Wexford FC is delighted to announce the signing of Karl Fitzsimons, the 20 year old midfielder (he can also play as a defender) has previously played for Dundalk FC, Drogheda United and Longford Town. Born in Dublin Karl signed for Drogheda United U19s in 2017. The following season he joined up with Stephen Kenny's Dundalk side and made a couple of Cup appearances for the senior side as well as playing with their U19s.

Karl signed for Longford Town for the 2019 season but didn't get as much game time there as he would have liked. Wexford FC manager Brian O'Sullivan called to see if he was interested in a move to Ferrycarrig Park for the 2020 season and the promising young player was happy to sign and is now looking forward to the new challenge. We spoke with Karl at training this week about the move to the south east:

"Yeah, when Brian called, he said if I can perform well enough that I would get a chance of playing regularly, that's all you really want to hear from a manager. I'm just looking to get a break. To get a run in the team and see how well I can do. When I was with Dundalk I was in and out of the team and then with Longford I was hoping to get more games than I did so hopefully with Wexford I can nail down a spot and kick on. I trained with Aaron Dobbs and Jack Doherty at Longford and they had good things to say about the club so I'm delighted to be here. We started up training in Arklow on Saturday, it was good to meet up with all the lads. We had two more sessions again this week so it's been good so far."

Karl will join up with a new look Wexford FC squad on Saturday afternoon in the first pre-season game of the season when Wexford take on Shelbourne at the AUL. Kick off is at 12 midday.
